Being bilingual boosts brain power

Scientists who have carried out research into the effects of being bilingual have discovered that bilingualists appear to have a highly efficient auditory system, according to a BBC report.

Student volunteers were tested on their responses to different sounds and their brainwave patterns were traced. The article reports that under laboratory conditions both the monolingual and bilingual volunteers responded similarly.

However, in a noisier environment "the bilingual group were far superior at processing sounds".
