Business / Liaison Interpreting
This is most appropriate in the business setting. Here the interpreter will interpret more or less sentence by sentence, allowing a smooth flow of conversation between two parties. In other words, the interpreter acts as the go-between permitting questions to be raised and points to be clarified as necessary.
Consecutive Interpreting
The interpreter will take notes whilst the speaker is speaking and afterwards will relay the original message in the second language. It is commonly used for speeches or talks which cannot be interrupted.
Simultaneous Interpreting
This is performed at the same time as the speaker is speaking. It usually takes place on a large scale, such as in conference centres and government buildings that have specially designed facilities. Equipment is also available on hire.
On a smaller scale, simultaneous interpreting can be carried out in the form of "whispering".
